"West Branch I."

1999, watercolor, 20"x22" collection of the artist.

Located in northeastern Ohio, West Branch Reservoir has provided me with hours of peaceful contemplation...as well as a few fish.

Fluctuating levels due to the release of water for the cleansing of downstream waterways make this lake an ever changing and exciting place to explore. Spring water levels are very high as you can see by the erosion and so fall levels afford a fisherman a chance to recover some of those lost lures.

"Walking Man Walks"-West Branch II.

2000, watercolor, 9.5"x19.5" collection of the artist

The second in the West Branch series, "Walking Man..." depicts the quiet solitude of a cold winter evening's walk. The water levels are at their lowest then and I like to visually map some of these areas in my mind so that I know what I'm floating over in the spring and summer.

This image is the same area as depicted in "West Branch I."

"Something in Common"-West Branch III.

2001, watercolor, 10"x16.5"

Summer 2000 was a very cool and stormy one for those of us in northeastern Ohio. I watched countless heavy storms roll by while I was fishing at a safe distance. Some of them, however, convinced me that I probably shouldn't be on the water holding what might actually be a viable lightning rod. During these times I would either leave or pull my boat up on the bank, turn it over for shelter and wait it out. I got the idea for this painting during one of these times.

The bird is a Kingfisher...The rest I leave to you.
